DEVELOPMENT AND LOVE ARE REAL
POWER

WHAT IS POWER?
Power has many definitions, depending on the contxt in which the word is used. In this article, I will begin with a definition so as to set out the intent of this article.
Power has something to do with knowing who you are and knowing clearly your purpose. Those whom we call ÒpowerfulÓ, whether we love them or hate them, know their purpose and pursue it clearly and perhapsÒruthlesslyÓ.
This includes vile dictators like Hitler and Saddam Hussein, and it includes Mother Theresa and Jesus of Nazareth. This includes the bully on the street and the loving mother who will not allow her child to run into the street, if it costs her life or health to prevent it.
So in this sense ÒpowerfulÓ is an inside job. It is not about the trappings Ð the money, the buildings, the armies one commands, the followers or any of this. Those are the outworkings of power. It begins inside oneself.
Some are born this way. They seem to lead, for better or for worse, from the time they are little children. Some know early on what their life path will be, even if that path is crime and destruction. Hitler wrote about his path when he was just young man, for example. Some others begin life as weaklings, so to speak, but develop power later on, but this is rarer.
ALL POWER IS SPIRITUAL
All power is spiritual power because we are spiritual beings. One may not realize it, but spirit or the spiritual world is the source of our life and therefore our power. This is a critical point for those who want to be more powerful. It may seem to be about guns or money or friends or sex, but it is never just about these items.
Power is about who you are, first and foremost. The clearer you are about who you are, the more quickly you will build up your power.
However, you can do this in one of two ways. You can build up the ego self or you can build up the high self or god self. The latter is superb, while the former will eventually destroy you. The reason is that the real you is not physical. So any attempt to build up the power of that which is not the real thing will eventually backfire. This is what all the television shows are about, waiting for the powerful to make their mistakes and then Òtaking them downÓ. This is an excellent slang phrase, and it is what happens to those who develop only the personal or ego self.
Having said this, some building up of the ego self is needed, especially in childhood, or one develops a weakness that is hard to overcome. One wants power but is terribly afraid of it at the same time. This is a common problem today, especially of those on the Left, as they say. These are also called the Liberals, an incorrect term because classical liberalism was the philosophy of the founders of America and it is the opposite of what is called a liberal today. However, the philosophy of these people is that power is bad, power is evil and America, because she is powerful, is therefore somehow bad or at least incorrect. This could ot be further from the truth.
The truth is that America is the most spiritual nation on the planet. I know some people will disagree with this. After all, we dropped the A-bomb, we kill people in Iraq and Afghanistan and we donÕt have ÒfreeÓ health care. However, these are just superficial indicators.
When I say we are the most spiritual and therefore the pre-eminent power on earth I am talking about something else. I am talking about the power to love.
THE POWER TO GIVE AND LOVE
You see, there is a connection between power and giving and loving. Those who are powerful love and give a lot. It is automatic. Those who are not loving are not powerful, no matter how much they say they are loving or giving. Words are phony too much of the time.
Americans are the most generous people on earth, without a doubt. What other nation gives the lives of its best citizens in a war half way around the world? It is not for oil. We are purchasing the oil, which otherwise would be stuck in the ground or feeding a vile dictator and is now nourishing an entire nation.
The power to love is real power. This is one way to tell if a person who professes to love you really does love you. If he or she is actually giving of themselves, it is love. If it is just giving of money or time, it is less likely love. If it is not giving, but taking and controlling, it is not the highest form of love, no matter what the world thinks.
This is also how to evaluate politicians, believe it or not. If the man or woman wants to give you things, it is not love.
Politicians have no power of themselves. The power is from God. If, on the other hand, the politician or anyone, for that matter, teaches you to trust in your development, education and this kind of thing, then you know it is more like real love.
This is confusing, I know, because people tend to vote for the person who promises the most goods and services. However, as mentioned earlier, a politician has no ability to give anyone anything. This can come only from developing yourself and attuning yourself to your higher power, wisdom and love.
Thus the saying attributed to John Kennedy, ÒAsk not what your country (or family or friends) can do for you, but what you can do for your country or othersÓ, is a fairly true statement. He did not practice it well enough, but the thought is there.
POWER AND INDEPENDENCE
Real power also has to do with interdependence. This means understanding that your power is not your own. This means that you realize that the source of your power is not coming from your body or even from your brain. It is coming from a source that is far beyond either of these.
This source we may call God, high self or some other name. In any case, it is important not to believe that you are the source. This leads only to egoism, which in turn leads to pride and a fall from power and more.
Power also means, and this is obvious, letting go of victimhood. This is a critical point that is discussed more in other article on this website such as Life Choices and others. Victimhood, for example, is really the opposite of power. But too many people do not understand this connection.
Victims are never powerful. Remember this principle. They are, by definition, almost, at the mercy of others. Victim thinking may include believing that white people run the world, or men run the world, or women run the show, or that the government is snooping on us and they have all the power. Vitctimhood means that you are not in charge, so how can you be powerful. Letting go of all this type of believing is not easy, so this is an important point about feeling powerful.
If God or higher self is in charge, I suppose you could feel like GodÕs pawn or victim. However, this has to do with how you view the creator of your life. Is he or she a jealous, wicked, nasty being or a being of pure love who allows humans to do as they see fit. As a result, humans make mistakes that cost lives, for example. This is a better view than believing you GodÕs pawn and victim, as most people believe.
Another point about power is that it is shared. That is, you and others control your life together. Power is never just yours alone, except maybe in small things like what you will wear today or how you will talk to someone. In large matters, like the fate of the country, you vote and in this way you share the power. Democracy is the idea of sharing power. This is why the dictators hate this concept. They want all the power and they donÕt want the people even thinking that the ordinary people can have power. So you will begin to understand many things by understanding how power works and why some have it while others do not.
GAINING AND EXPANDING YOUR POWER
Power grows when you align yourself spiritually. Read this sentence over and over. Power is from the spiritual world, so as anyone aligns himself with this world and its laws, oneÕs power increases.
However, it may not be obvious. Jesus, for example, was not a powerful dictator, much to the chagrin of his followers of his time. He said it, too. He claimed that Òmy kingdom is not of this earthÓ. He was essentially saying exactly what is described here. Spiritual power is different from early force.
An excellent book was written by David Hawkins entitled Power Versus Force. It is worth reading, even if you donÕt like muscle testing, which the author used to assess spiritual power versus earthly force.
To increase your power, Dr. Hawkins, a medical doctor, recommended reading spiritual material. There is real wisdom in this. Another way is to clean out your body with excellent food, nutrients, colonic irrigation, enemas, saunas and other natural methods of enhancing your physical cleanliness Ð inside and out. This too will enhance your spiritual power, though you may not notice it at once.
