A recent trend is the use of tropical fruit drinks that are composed of one or a combination of the following:

Noni juice

Goji berry juice

Acai juice

Nopal (prickly pear cactus fruit) juice

Aloe vera juice

Camu Camu berry juice

Mangosteen juice

And possibly others

I have researched these recently and am reporting on my understanding of them at this time.

BENEFITS OF THESE DRINKS

All of them are rich in anti-oxidant nutrients, some extremely so.  All of them are beneficial for those who are very ill and need a shot of powerful anti-oxidant nutrition, primarily.  That is, they will slow or stop oxidant damage, which is one cause of illness.  This is one of their primary benefits.

All the drinks also contain a variety of phytonutrients found in the fruit.  These help some people offset their toxic metals and their nutrient deficiencies, which are very widespread.  These two benefits, I believe, account for most of the popularity of these exotic fruit beverages at this time.

PROBLEMS WITH THE TROPICAL FRUIT DRINKS

The problems with these drinks are the following:

1. Extreme yin.  All of these drinks are made from tropical or sub-tropical fruits.  This means they are extremely yin in macrobiotic and perhaps in Chinese medical terms.  Fruits are all quite yin, and tropical fruits are even more yin.

This is an important disadvantage or problem with all of the drinks.  It is mainly for this reason that I must discourage all of our clients from using them at all.

2. Slightly toxic.  The toxicity of the fruits may simply be due to their very yin qualities.  However, they appear to stop mental development by some mechanism.  This may not seem very important, but on a nutritional balancing program it is quite important.  It is another reason to avoid them all, except as explained below.

WHEN, IF EVER, CAN THESE DRINKS BE USED?

First, I do not find these drinks necessary if a person follows a nutritional balancing diet and program.

I would only recommend any of them if one is extremely debilitated, or if a woman or man was just raped.  Even in this situation, the drink should only be used for a limited time, such as one or two months.  After that, all of these tropical fruit drinks will cause the body to become more yin, and this will interfere with deep healing, no matter how nutritious the drink are.

I wish this were not so, and I am sorry to have to warn against the use of these interesting fruit drinks.  I will update this article if new information becomes available.
