I. INTRODUCTION

DEFINITIONS

1. In the Ebre language, gratitude is the binding aspect or force of love.

2. Gratitude has to do with the question of What Is Life? A deep truth is that life is a gift. If this is true, then one should be grateful for it at all times, no matter how one feels or in what situation one finds oneself.

3. Life is more than a gift. Life is a system. The definition of a system is a group in which all the parts or components are related. The basic relationship between the parts is gratitude.

Gratitude is what causes the parts to work together. Without gratitude, the parts would not work together and there would be no system. For details, read The Human Use Of Human Beings by Norbert Weiner (1950).

4. Gratitude is an appreciative state of mind. One appreciates what one has, rather than focus on what is lacking. Thus gratitude is a perspective or attitude about life that is based upon the truth.

5. Another word for gratitude is thankfulness. Gratitude means to be thankful for what you have, no matter how little it appears to be.

6. Gratitude is about loving and caring about others, rather than focusing only on yourself. It involves getting out of the self and becoming part of something bigger because that is the truth about your life.

7. Gratitude is first a decision about how you will look at and think about events, people and all situations. Later, you will feel grateful, but at first it must be a decision.

8. Gratitude becomes a path that one sets out upon and decides to follow. Doing so leads to deep joy and happiness because it is about the truth of life.

9. Gratitude needs to become the motivating force for all that you think, say and do.

10. Gratitude is a deep level decision of the souls that live inside each person. For details about souls, read Soul Science and other articles about souls on this website.

11. Related words: grace, graceful, gracious and great. Something that is great means it is worth being grateful for.

II. GRATITUDE 1 – 7

1. Physical level. The plants are grateful to grow. The food they produce is grateful to be eaten, digested and used to build bodies. The animals and human bodies are grateful to eat. These are examples of the physical aspect of gratitude.

2. Emotional level. Gratitude is a pleasant feeling of oneness and connectedness.

Without gratitude, life is lonely, cold and alienating. The Rogues want us feeling alone because that way people are much easier to control. It is an example of the military strategy of divide and conquer. They told me they don't like this article and they tried to stop me from writing it!

3. Ego or power and control level. Gratitude moderates and balances the ego. Gratitude provides a sense of power and control without dominating others.

4. Social level. As explained in the definitions above, gratitude connects us with others and is the basic healthy relationship.

5. Expression and teamwork level. Gratitude leads to healthy expression, work, and teamwork. Without gratitude, work is not service. It is just a chore and a grind.

6. Intellectual level. Hopefully this article will help you understand gratitude at a deeper intellectual level. It is a deep concept.

7. Spiritual level. Gratitude is a quality of God and is the correct relationship to have with the creator. It is related to love.

III. HOW TO BECOME A GRATEFUL PERSON

REALIZE THE TRUTH ABOUT LIFE

If you don't believe that life is a gift, you won't be grateful. Thus, realizing the truth about life is the first step to becoming grateful. The purpose of this step is to create the desire to be grateful. Desire is always the first step to action.

MAKE A GRATEFUL LIST EVERY DAY AND READ IT OFTEN

Once you have the desire to be grateful, you need to maintain the desire. This is called working on intention. Intention is desire that is focused and ongoing.

An excellent way to do this is to make a list of all the things you are grateful for. Then read it often and add to it each day. Think about it when you wake up in the morning, during the day, and when you are going to bed, or at night if you cannot sleep.

Any time of the day, think about it and think of more things for which you are grateful.

The list can include almost anything. You can be grateful for your shoes, for your ideas, that you are not being eaten by a tiger, that you do not live somewhere freezing cold or boiling hot, and so forth. Try to have as much fun with it as you can, and you will think of literally hundreds of things to be grateful for each day.

For some people, the mind is not used to thinking this way. Instead, it has focused on its lacks, its anger, its unhappiness, and often its loneliness and lack of appreciation.

So this will be new and different, and perhaps uncomfortable for your mind. Just persist. If you do, making your gratitude list will become a new habit that will serve you more than you can imagine.

The third step to action is allowing. To become grateful, one needs to relax and allow your new intention to play itself out in your life.

What occurs may be surprising. It will likely involve new situations, meeting new people, and more.

The fourth step to action is surrender. This is when you fully live the path or lifestyle of gratitude.

III. MORE TOPICS RELATED TO GRATITUDE

GRATITUDE IS RELATED TO LOVE

One definition of love is that it is the connecting force that binds our universe together. A quality of that love that permeates the universe is gratitude.

GRATITUDE IS ABOUT OUR CONNECTION WITH EACH OTHER

Gratitude has to do with realizing that we are all one, at some level. The connection is so deep that if we will just focus on our connection, rather than how we are different or separate, we will feel better and life will progress better.

Gratitude is difficult, in fact, if you feel disconnected from others, alienated, and not connected.

PRAYER CAN HELP YOU REALIZE YOU ARE ALWAYS CONNECTED AND SHOULD THEREFORE ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL

Many prayers begin with the words “We thank you”. This is the best expression of gratitude.

It is said that the angels continuously praise God, and we should do the same. This, too, is an expression of gratitude, as all of life is really a gift, even the hardships, the illnesses, the accidents, the broken marriages and all the rest.

GRATITUDE AND GRACE

Gratitude is appreciation, in general.  Grace is the Love of the Creator for you. We don’t agree with the way some people define grace as unearned and undeserved.  We believe everyone deserves the best in life.

You can learn to be thankful for grace in every moment, and to be a gracious or grace-filled and gratitude-filled person.  This can carry you far in your journey toward peace and health.

GRATITUDE LEADS TO A DESIRE TO BE HELPFUL

Gratitude leads to a desire to assist, to be of service, to be part of the solution to problems, rather than be a spectator, a complainer, or a loafer.

ULTIMATELY, GRATITUDE IS A DECISION

This means that in the end, an attitude of gratitude about all things in life is a way of looking at life upon which you must decide and insist upon. It is a choice, in other words.

One can be angry, unhappy or upset much of the time, as there is always someone or something about which to be upset.

However, one can also choose for gratitude, as there is always something for which you can be grateful. This is very important to understand. So what do you choose? Which sounds like more fun and a more enjoyable way to live?
