THE MEDIA
AND THE TRUTH

How to find the truth in our
world. I
have learned over the years that in order to learn the truth about a situation,
one must read or at least become well acquainted with several sides of every
story. This is an absolute truth
on earth at this time, because there is a tremendous amount of corruption of
the truth, or lying, plus there is a lot of misunderstanding and lack of
understanding, even when the media and authors and others strive for the
truth. So I advise anyone who want
the truth to read widely, spend time watching the television shows that you donÕt
like much, and do not be put off by peopleÕs style, but rather focus on the
information itself.
The
rest of this article is about media sources that I recommend, and those to
avoid if you want the truth. They
are not absolutes, but they hold most of the time.
TRUTHFUL MEDIA SOURCES
Television.
The best single source I have found is Fox News, although it is far from
perfect. Other television networks
like CNN, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, Link TV, and many others are much more
unreliable in their news reporting.
I would avoid them totally, as the amount of truth is not worth your
time. They are okay on some issue
reporting, but really do not understand the issues well.
Radio. The conservative talk shows are often
best. Laura Ingraham, Dennis
Prager, Michael Medved, Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity, Glen Beck, Michael Savage
and others may seem angry or unloving, at times, but they offer what is often
the only way to learn what is really going on in the world.
My
main objection to these talk show hosts is they do not understand the medical
system and the importance of diet, natural foods, vitamin and mineral
supplements, and natural healing methods.
All
of these programs can be accessed via the internet so that you can listen at
your leisure, when you want, and even if your local AM radio station does not
carry the program.
In
contrast, I find that National Public Radio or NPR is very left-wing. They are very smooth and on listening
casually you can think they are totally objective and just reporting the news,
but they are not. They do not
report both sides of the story correctly, and they conveniently omit many very
important stories. They are not
always ÒwrongÓ, but they do not give you the whole picture, so your mind is not
educated properly by listening to these stations, at all. Unless you counter their ÒnewsÓ and
other shows with the AM conservative talk radio, you will become hopelessly
ignorant, off-base and often confused because NPR is confused.
Internet News Sites.
For politics:
WWW.BIGGOVERNMENT.COM. A related
site is WWW.BREITBART.COM. Other
very good ones include WWW.TOWNHALL.COM and WWW.DRUDGEREPORT.COM.
For superficial news,
the Fox News website is not bad.
For great history – the true
history – go to WWW.WALLBUILDERS.COM.
Magazines.
Once again, if you want to read a news magazine, you should read the
conservative magazines such as Newsmax or the Weekly Standard.
I
would not bother with standard magazines such as Time © and Newsweek ©. These have a very liberal and left-wing
or progressive slant that makes their news and coverage very unreliable.
Newspapers. There are very few really good
newspapers left. The Wall Street
Journal is not too bad, but it is not great. Some small hometown papers may be okay, but donÕt count on
it.
The
New York Times is horrible, even if it is Òwell-respectedÓ. It regularly lies
and omits the truth. USA Today is
no better and is quite a superficial paper, as well. Therefore, I cannot recommend a national newspaper as a
great source of information today.
INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING
Newspapers,
in particular, and the media in general used to do something called in-depth or
investigative reporting. This was
not just a program or two per month, but a daily activity of the mass
media. It was careful, factual
reporting, with fact-checking at each step, and without much of a political
agenda or ax to grind. It was
simply a search for the truth.
Those
who are young must learn that this kind of reporting is almost all gone
today. The newspapers are barely
surviving, those that remain, and they donÕt have the staff to do real
reporting. Perhaps some do have
the staff, like the New York Times, but they donÕt care or in most cases they
have become hopelessly left-wing or liberal and their stories and
investigations reflect this political agenda. Therefore, they are not helpful and often the newspaper ÒnewsÓ
is little more than propaganda.
This is indeed a shame.
However,
this role has been taken over, to some degree at least, by the internet news
sites. One that I highly recommend
is the Drudge Report, for example.
Another is the columns, website and books by Michelle Malkin.
