STATIN DRUGS, AND WHY AVOID THEM

The statin drugs are an unmitigated disaster, in my view.  They are not needed, and they have many side effects.  Fully one in four adults in America over the age of 45 takes one of them.   This is unconscionable corruption by the FDA and drug companies, in my view, as they are harmful in the extreme and one can lower cholesterol easily without them.  High cholesterol, by itself, is not a disease to be treated with drugs anyway.  It is simply a stress indicator, if it is even that.  Please do not take these drugs!

HOW STATIN DRUGS WORK

Statin drugs block an enzyme in the liver responsible for making cholesterol.  This is quite insane, as cholesterol is a necessary substance in the body.  What is worse, however, is that the same enzyme is needed to make coenzyme-Q 10, an amazing substance needed for the heart, and for the muscles, and in fact, for every cell in the body.  So taking a statin drug lowers your level of coenzyme Q-10, which causes dozens of terrible Òside effectsÓ.      There are over 900 studies showing the terrible side effects of statin drugs – from diabetes and heart disease, to muscle disease, birth defects and cancer.  One study showed that any use of statin drugs increases the risk of prostate cancer in men, for example.

Sadly, this information was reported as early as 1996, but doctors and drug companies and the FDA just ignore it.  This is corruption, and little else.

Statin drugs have also been linked to:

Weakness

Serious degenerative muscle tissue condition (rhabdomyolysis)

Pancreas or liver dysfunction, including a potential increase in liver enzymes

Muscle problems, aches and pains

Diabetes

Polyneuropathy (nerve damage in the hands and feet)

Immune system suppression

Increased risk of food borne illness

Anemia

Sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction)

Cataracts

Cognitive impairment, including memory loss and transient global amnesia

If you still insist on taking statin drugs, at least take about 300 mg of coenzyme Q-10 with it.  This will not stop all the side effects, but it will help somewhat.  I would never take any of these drugs, however.
