I. INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION

Music, as compared to just sound, is sounds that are harmonious and organized. Often there is a melody, there are chords that are harmonious combinations of notes, and often there is a rhythm or beat or flow to the notes.

MUSIC IS A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE

Have you noticed that music is a universal language?  This means it is listened to around the globe, and it tends to relax people, bring people together, and uplift the spirit when it is beautiful to listen to, and sometimes even when it is not so beautiful.  So what is music, and why does it have this amazing effect on us?

II. MUSIC FOR HEALING

Playing jazzy music at somewhat high volume can help heal a person's souls in certain ways. The concept of souls inhabiting bodies is discussed in other articles on this website such as Soul Science.

We are using music that is upbeat, fast, dance music that is happy-sounding with drum beats and perhaps with unusual sounds. It appears to work by several mechanisms:

- Loosening spikes that have been shot into souls by the aliens, thugs or rogues.

- Vibrating certain energy centers in such a way that they detoxify and become active.

- Vibrating organs and tissues in a way that they detoxify enough to function better.

- Happy-sounding and somewhat silly-sounding music also seems to uplift or excite the souls. For example, Cuban salsa music seems to have this effect.

There may be many other types of music that can be used for healing. For example, some people like classical music. It tends to have predictable and standard chords and chord changes. A chord change means that one chord leads into another chord.

INSTRUMENTS

Stringed instruments such as violins, cellos, stringed base, guitars and others have an excellent healing effect.

Wind instruments such as oboes, flutes, clarinets, organs, trumpets, saxophones and others can also be very healing. They have a completely different sound.

Hitting metal or wooden bars with a stick or hammer produces very healing tones. Examples are xylophones and marimbas.

There are hundreds of types of drums, each with a different sound. These can also be very healing.

There are more unusual instruments such as vibrating wine glasses or Tibetan glass bowls.

Some like electronic music and synthesized music generated by computers.

The human voice can also be very healing, both male and female. There are many types of singing.

Sounds of animals and sounds of nature such as ocean waves, wind moving through trees, and other nature sounds are also very relaxing and can help heal the body and mind.

Certain chords also are very healing for some people. One of these is the major seven chord. It has an open sound that some people like very much. Standard chords can also be very good, such as thirds, fourths and fifths.

Certain rhythms are also quite healing. These include standard 4-beat rhythm, 3-beat waltz rhythm, and more complex 6-8 or other rhythms.

Some people find Brazilian Bossa Nova music particularly relaxing.

PROBLEMS WITH MUSIC

1. Some music is not pleasing to the soul, although you may think it is.  The best music is often the simplest, for example, not complex, loud and blaring.

2. Some music sends one’s energy upward.  In fact, most music has this effect.  Classical music is better in this regard, but not that much better.  High-pitched notes do this more than the others, in many cases, and some instruments such as flutes do this more than other instruments.

3. The words to most music are also fake, false and distracting.  I know this sounds harsh, but recall that most music is not written to convey the truth, but rather a feeling or emotion that the author is feeling, not a feeling that you have.

4. Complex music like jazz, rock n roll, and harsher music can upset the soul, though you may enjoy it for other reasons.  It might lift your spirits, make you want to dance, excite the passions, etc.  This is an emotional effect of music, however, not a soul effect.
