I. INTRODUCTION
We have learned a lot about using of Thumper brand of massagers to help with reflexology, finding coffee, doing certain treatments, general massage, and more.
These machines plug in and the speed is variable. It the machine gets too hot, it shuts down. Lighter, battery-powered massage machines are also available.
This article discusses care of the Thumper machines. We discuss the Thumper Sport and the Thumper Mini-Pro. Of these two, we prefer the Thumper Sport. It is lighter, less costly, and simpler to repair. Its only disadvantage is that it overheats and shuts off sooner than some of the older Thumper Mini-Pro machines.
II. BASIC CARE – CLEANING AND LUBRICATION
1. Cleaning the outside. Spray and then wipe with white vinegar. One can also use 3% hydrogen peroxide. These clean and also kill germs on the machine.
2. Oiling. If the machine becomes noisy or does not operate well, it often needs cleaning and oiling inside.
To Open The Sport Model. To open the Thumper Sport, remove the seven Philips head screws holding the cover on. You will need a long, medium-sized Philips screwdriver. When the screws are out, the cover will come apart into two pieces.
To Open the Thumper Mini-Pro. This is more difficult. There is a purple or black rubbery piece of plastic covering the top of the machine. One must remove it to open the machine. Do this by putting a screwdriver between the plastic and the body of the machine nearest the handle. It is glued on and will come off.
Also, on the underside of the handle there are two large plastic plugs covering two screws. To get the plugs off, I drill them out with a small drill bit. When you get underneath a plug, it just pops off. The drilling damages the plug, but I don't care because I don't put them back.
Also, there are two plastic “pins” on the front of the machine that must be removed. Do this using two screwdrivers – one on top and one on bottom. The pins are made of flexible plastic and will come out. Using pliers often does more damage to them.
Now remove the three Philips screws that are under the purple or black rubbery piece of plastic. Two are on the surface and one is below the surface.
Then turn the machine over and remove the two Philips screws that are on the underside of the handle. Then gently lift off the upper part of the cover.
Cleaning Procedure: Wipe out or blow out all dust, dirt and other debris in the machine. If you wish, use a vacuum cleaner for this, but it is not necessary.
Lubricating procedure. Apply lubricating oil to:
1) Main motor shaft – both ends. Lay the machine on one of its sides. You will have to prop it up or it will fall over. The motor shaft should be straight up and down. Put a few drops of lubricating oil on the exposed end of the shaft and leave it overnight to soak in.
The next day, turn the machine so the other end of the motor shaft faces upward. Put a few drops of oil on this end of the shaft and leave it for a day. This should lubricate the entire shaft.
2) The rocker mechanism. Put drops of oil on the bolts on both sides of the rocker mechanism.
