DEVELOPMENTAL BLOCKS THAT OFTEN
SLOW DOWN MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

Many
things can slow or stop mental or
spiritual development, as I define it on this website in articles such as Introduction To Spiritual Development. This development is a physical
enlargement of the brain and enhancement of its functioning through a series of
mechanisms that are dependent, in large part, upon oneÕs nutritional
status. This article discusses
some of the most important ways that people slow or stop this particular type
of marvelous change in their bodies.
1. IMPROPER EATING
Many
food-related problems will slow or stop development. These include:
A. Yin diets.
Eating too many yin foods is often the most damaging type of eating for
development. These are sugars,
sweets, fruit, raw foods, vegetarian diets, vegan diets, or not enough cooked
meat and eggs.
B.
Depleted foods. These include most refined and
chemical-containing foods, and sadly, many common everyday foods like wheat,
beef and even white corn and others.
C. Toxic foods. These include many items. Here is a basic list arranged by the type of toxin in the
food:
Metals or toxic minerals:
All
shellfish and most fish are high in mercury. Wine is high in arsenic and lead in many cases. Organ meats are higher in toxic metals
and toxic chemicals. Some herbs,
particular Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs contain too many toxic metals. Others are clays such as zeolite and
bentonite, which are high in aluminum, sea trace minerals, some salts, and most
seaweeds except kelp. Most commercial bread contains bromine. Most tap water contains added fluoride,
chlorine compounds, aluminum, and many contain copper, etc.
Toxic chemical compounds:
-
Fermented foods are high in aldehydes, which are quite toxic.
-
Nightshade vegetables, which contain a toxin calleds solanin.
-
Overcooked food is high in denatured proteins and unavailable calcium,
including all pasteurized and homogenized dairy products.
-
All prepared foods tend to contain toxic chemicals. These are often added as preservatives, coloring, flavoring,
dough enhancers and hundreds of other types of toxic chemicals that are
permitted in the food supply.
-
Conventionally grown food, as compared with organically grown food, also
contains far more pesticide residues and these type of toxins.
-
Many mixtures of food ingredients produce some toxic chemicals. For example, adding salt to water
poisons it, but many people are doing this. Adding other things to water is usually a bad idea as well.
-
Most municipal drinking water contains traces of hundreds of medical drugs
today that do not biodegrade fast enough and find their way into the ground
water. City water also usually
contains residues of hundreds of toxic chemicals from industrial and even
natural sources.
-
Alcohol use is extremely toxic, as are recreational drugs including cannabis.
Biological toxins:
-
Old or spoiled food often contains mold, bacteria, yeasts, fungi, viruses and
other harmful organisms.
-
Raw food often contains harmful pathogenic organisms such as parasite eggs and
other filth, hepatitis germs and much more, even if it washed. This is why I only recommend raw dairy
that one knows is clean.
-
Even cooked pork, ham, bacon, lard and other pig products often contain
trichina and other parasite cysts.
This is why I suggest avoiding all pig products.
Other toxins:
These include radioactive isotopes,
energetic toxins such as that the food was prepared in a microwave oven or
grown on such defective soil that the food is toxic at very subtle levels that
may not be detectable with conventional scientific instruments.
Unbalanced nutrient content.
Wheat
is too high in glutamine today.
Spirulina and blue-green algae are unbalanced in some way. Beef and most cow dairy is
somewhat unbalanced due to hybrid use.
All refined food is unbalanced such as sugars, white flour, white rice,
white bread, grits, corn starch and hundreds of other products.
Chelators:
These
include chlorella, some cilantro extracts, distilled water for more than six
months or so, and chemical chelators such as DMSA, DMPS, EDTA and others. All of these tend to remove some vital
minerals from the body, making them all dangerous.
Toxic combinations:
Some
foods just do not combine well with others and form toxic compounds in the
stomach or elsewhere. The best
idea is to keep meals simple.
2. IMPROPER WATER FOR
DRINKING. This is sometimes an important cause. One may 1) not drink enough water (3
quarts daily for most adults), 2) drink the wrong kind of water such as
alkaline water, reverse osmosis water or others, or 3) consume substances that
deplete water such as alcohol, sugars and fruits, or caffeine.
3. AN IMBALANCED LIFESTYLE
This
is a very common item that slows or stops spiritual development, as defined on
this website. Among the most
important problems are:
A. Not enough rest. Rest in large amounts is needed,
especially for the initial stages of mental and spiritual development. Those with active lives do not like
this and may not cooperate with the need for more rest.
Some people
just donÕt like sleeping much, or they have busy lives and more rest and sleep
is difficult for them. However,
sleep is a critical factor for mental and spiritual development, as subtle
changes must take place in the body requiring a more sedentary and quiet
lifestyle.
An
important requirement, though not absolutely essential, is to go to bed early,
preferably by 9 PM. Much more
regeneration of the body occurs when one goes to bed very early, as opposed to
staying up later.
B. Too much sexual activity. Unfortunately, too much sexual
activity and unhealthful sexual activity can slow or block the type of
development advocated on this website.
The reasons are that it makes the body much more yin in all cases. Losing the sexual fluids make one
yin. Picking up
sexually-transmitted infections that are yin makes one more yin. Also, mixing your mental and emotional
energy with that of others tends to be more yin.
This
is not to say one must become celibate.
However, restraint in the sexual area is definitely best. For more on sex, in general, read Development And Sex on this website.
C.
Recreational or even too much medical drug use.
D.
Chaotic lifestyles with too much stress, too much activity, too much running
around, too much exercise, or similar imbalances.
4. IMPROPER FOOD
SUPPLEMENTS
Missing supplements. Certain food
supplements are critical for mental and spiritual development, as here
defined. These especially include kelp, at least 3 660 mg capsules
daily. Most everyone needs more
omega-3 fatty acids, preferably from fish oil, not flax or hemp oil, and not
krill oil. Most people need about
1000 mg daily combined of EPA and DHA.
Most people also need a vitamin D3 supplement, about 5000 iu or a little
more each day. Without these, we
find that development slows or stops.
Other
supplement may be less critical, but at times they are vital. These may include a powerful digestive
aid, calcium and magnesium, zinc, selenium or perhaps a few others. This is a matter of individual
differences that depends on oneÕs genetics and the nutritional adequacy of each
person.
Too many supplements. Another unusual problem that slows
development is taking too many food supplements. Most supplements are yin, so taking a lot of herbs,
vitamins, minerals and homeopathics can make the body more yin and inhibit
development as well. This is
important to recall if you prone to taking many extra supplements for any
reason.
Random
and chaotic supplements.
This is very common today as some people read magazines or books that confuse
them. Others visit doctors,
holistic practitioners, naturopaths, kinesiologists and others who recommend
supplements on seemingly scientific grounds, but we find that many are chaotic,
conflicting and confuse the body.
ÒOldÓ
supplements that no longer work as well. Sadly, this includes most acupuncture herbs, Ayurvedic
herbs and Western herbal medicine.
Most practitioners of these sciences simply do not know enough, and even
if they do, their products are often not working as well today due to subtle
changes on the earth.
Partial
supplement knowledge related to nutritional balancing science.
This occurs when a person tries to alter their body chemistry using
supplements in order to Òfeel betterÓ or reduce symptoms rather than to balance
the body chemistry in accordance with Dr. Paul EckÕs system. This is very subtle and hard to detect
in some cases, but seems to stop development very quickly because it prevents
one from experiencing healing reactions and other symptoms that are needed to
move forward.
Doctrinaire
or ideological eating and supplementation. This
includes using only food-based supplements, for example, or only vegetarian
products, or only raw foods, or only pills that are free of binders and
fillers, or deciding one will only take a few supplements, or only for a short
time, etc. The ideology or concept
takes precedence over balancing and strengthening the body and this stops
development or slows it significantly.
5. RELATIONSHIP
DIFFICULTIES THAT AFFECT THE MIND AND BODY.
This
can be a marriage, for example, or any sexual or even business relationship
that causes so much stress or otherwise unbalances a person that it slows of
can even stop development. In
fact, this is a very common cause of slowed development.
6. A NEED FOR STUDY OR
MENTAL EFFORTING
An
interesting observation is that some mental efforting or study is extremely
helpful for this type of development.
For example, reading or even watching a DVD program forces the mind into
certain patterns and channels energy into the mind in specific ways that seems
to assist mental development.
Also, study tends to focus the mind and this is much more yang, which
may be why study is so helpful.
Sadly,
many people today do not read or otherwise study much of anything once they
graduate from school. This is unfortunate
for them and it tends to halt this type of mental development. Just reading junky novels in a
superficial way or watching most movies is not as helpful. In fact, it may be harmful because it
wastes your time, even if they inspire you or cheer you up.
The
best type of study is to read the bible, or study scientific literature and
actually study it to learn it thoroughly.
For example, reading articles on this website, and reading them slowly
and repeatedly in order to memorize the material is very helpful for
development.
7. IMBALANCED OR HARMFUL
ATTITUDES
OneÕs
attitudes can affect development in unusual and powerful ways. For example, the most developed groups
around the world are often Christians.
Interestingly, a second group that shows a lot of development is the
business community, including Wall Street people and business people, in
general. I am not sure why this is
so, though many are Christians and most have enough money and intelligence to
eat well. However, their attitudes
may also be important.
Meanwhile,
the least developed, often, are Ònew ageÓ and self-proclaimed Òspiritual peopleÓ, along with those who
have no religious affiliation.
This may seem strange. I do
not understand it myself, but here are some possible explanations:
1. Belief versus non-belief in a
development process on earth. Christians believe in development, even
if it is not exactly the same as that espoused on this website. If one believes that mental and
spiritual development is possible, it can be most helpful. It may help with discipline, focus and
living oneÕs life in a healthful manner.
Many new age people believe they are superior and perfect as they
are. This is less helpful as they
are liable to work less on themselves in all areas of life.
2. Yang versus yin moral and cultural
beliefs. New age
spiritual people often follow vegetarian or semi-vegetarian diets, and their
entire belief system is more yin.
By this I mean they have fewer standards, are less disciplined in every
area of their lives, do not like following rigid rules like the Ten
Commandments, many use yin drugs such as alcohol and marijuana, and they often
believe in victimhood and are angry.
These are all yin traits, and yin, generally, slows or stops
development.
3. Positivity versus negativity and
depression. Attitudes of negativity, depression and
anger may slow or stop development.
True Christian belief may help with these attitudes. Many new age people are in rebellion,
and this is a very yin attitude.
Christians, on the other hand, and business people, are Òfollowing
ordersÓ and this may make a difference.
4. Humility versus arrogance and
rebellion. Christians
and business people are more humble in many ways than new age spiritual types
of individuals. Christianity is a
humbling religion. A real business
person also knows that he or she must satisfy the customer, and this is also
humbling. Many new age people are
not humble, though they may fancy themselves as such. They often have a superior attitude that definitely slows
and can stop development. Also, of
course, if one thinks one has already ÒarrivedÓ, one works less hard at
actually developing oneself.
5. Politically right (more yang) versus
politically left (more yin, generally). Christians
and business people tend to be more right of center politically. New age people often are left of center
politically.
The
more centrist and right of center people believe in self reliance, limited
government under a Constitution, much more freedom, capitalism, liberty for
all, guns for self defense, and the like.
These are far more yang attitudes, and yang, in general, helps
development.
Left
of center attitudes are the opposite.
They do not believe in limited government, freedom first, free
enterprise capitalism (which is freedom in the economic sphere), total free
speech, and other liberties that were advocated and written into law by the
American founders.
Left-wing
attitudes are actually far more authoritarian and old-fashioned, like the rule
of kings and monarchs, even though few will admit it. For example, many new age people are fearful that we are
killing the earth and flooding the planet due to global warming, a total lie
they have been taught. They blame
business people for this, and want a Òstrong central governmentÓ, meaning
authoritarian rule, to keep everyone in line, redistribute the wealth ÒfairlyÓ
and save the earth. Authoritarian
attitudes are very yin in nature, since they presume that people have no
discipline and no ability to rule themselves. This may be important in some cases.
6. Mentally and emotionally grounded,
centered, and directed versus less mentally and emotionally grounded, much less
centered and more non-directed and confused. Another possible explanation is that the more conservative
and Christian, and business people are more grounded and more directed in their
lives. They follow simple rules
set out in the bible or even in business.
Whether for better or for worse, they are less confused because of this.
In
contrast, the new age, and self-proclaimed spiritual people tend to be less
grounded and centered, in my experience.
They may be directed by spirit guides, psychics and gurus, but this is
very questionable in many cases, and a lot is superficial in my
experience. As a result, or maybe
for other reasons, these people are much more confused. This adds to their yin energy. More on this subject is found in the
article entitled Attitudes And Development.
8. LOW SELF-ESTEEM.
This
is an important factor in some cases that makes people discouraged and limits
their ability to take risks and move forward in their lives.
9. LACK OF MOTIVATION OR
DRIVE TO SUCCEED.
This
can also hold back progress in some cases, as one does not work hard enough to
make changes. It can have many
causes, from nutritional to psychological or others.
10. PARENTING AS A FACTOR.
OneÕs
upbringing is definitely a factor that holds some people back, though it is
definitely not a guarantee of anything.
Good parenting teaches a child normal discipline, a healthy self-esteem,
how to rest enough, how to eat properly and how to think and care for oneself
properly in every sphere of life.
Good parenting should also cultivate in a child a belief in a spiritual
development process on earth. This
should be a great advantage later in life when development usually occurs.
If,
however, a child had to fend for himself, was around low integrity people for
his first 10 to 20 years of life, had poor role models, and so on, this should
be a disadvantage. It does not
always work out this way, but overall it probably does.
11. SOME BIRTH DEFECTS OR
ILLNESSES.
Some
birth defects will interfere with development in many possible ways. Also, it is possible that having a brain
tumor, or some other illnesses can slow or stop development. This tends to be rare.
12. KARMIC CONDITIONS.
This refers to decisions made at some spiritual level that affect oneÕs
rate of mental or spiritual development.
For example, one may decide or choose that in oneÕs lifetime one will
not develop much mentally in order to experience certain events or situations,
perhaps to help others, or perhaps to learn some lesson.
13. CONGENITAL CONDITIONS
These
are conditions of the mind or body that one is born with that are not
genetic. They may be due to:
-
Nutritional deficiencies in the mother that are passed on to the child.
-
Toxic chemicals in the mother that are passed on to the child.
-
Subtle or other infections that are passed to the child during gestation.
-
Psychic or psychological imbalances that occur in the womb and affect the baby
as a result of stress on the mother or even on the father.
-
Other such as injuries during pregnancy, the effect of taking drugs or using
alcohol during pregnancy and others.
DIFFICULTIES THAT OCCUR
DURING SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
The
difficulties that arise on the path of spiritual development have been known
for millennia. They are sometimes
called the Òcardinal sinsÓ such as pride, greed and jealousy. Others difficulties are diseases that
tend to kill even the most spiritual of individuals. These imbalances are unfortunately extremely common.
Other
problems that occur as one develops spiritually are laziness or sloth, anger or
bitterness as one wakes up and sees the truth about our tawdry world and all
its lies and corruption. Other
problems have to do with family relationships that must shift as one wakes
up. Often if these do not change,
oneÕs development will stop dead.
In other words, one cannot live in two worlds at the same time.
I
am reminded of a passage in the New Testament of the bible in which the mother
of Jesus asked for him while he was preaching in a synagogue. His answer was ÒWho is my mother? Who is my brother?Ó The meaning is that one must be clear
about family relations and how to handle them.
Nutritional balancing helpful for some
developmental problems. Nutritional balancing cannot prevent all
of these blocks and problems that occur during development. It can, however, help a person to:
1.
Build a solid physical and biochemical foundation upon which to develop
2.
Clear many emotional and mental blocks that arise during the development
process. This usually happens
automatically, in its own timing, in wonderful ways.
3.
Remove toxic metals and other toxins that can block anyoneÕs spiritual
development by impairing the functioning of the brain and much more, as
well.
4.
Prevent or avoid, in many cases, the worst of the illnesses such as cancer and
others, or at least slow them down significantly.
